Short statement

Within this blog is a selection of both successful and unsuccessful work from a range of different briefs throughout my HND course, experimenting with manual and digital based design. I have a passion for a number of disciplines, from print to motion, and would like to push myself in all these areas to become a multi disciplinary designer. Pushing myself in every area keeps my creativity fresh and constant. Restricting myself to one discipline would diminish my ability in other areas, areas that I would love to immerse myself in, something that can be achieved within your course. The course in place at MMU will allow me to experiment, explore and help me find my personal style. I believe firsthand experience in the industry is invaluable and have taken all the opportunities that have been handed to me; these include a placement at Golly & Slater, to working with Birmingham based fashion designer Jacob Kimmie. Working under real industry pressures and timescales have really taught me some important lessons such as client interaction and time management; with the placements offered at MMU I can refine these skills and also learn a number of new ones. Despite having a healthy knowledge of Graphic Design I feel that studying in Manchester will instil a more cultured ethic to my design work and Manchester’s history, its heritage and its vastly growing community will all help to mould me into the designer I will be in the future. I feel I still have a lot to learn about myself as a designer and as a person and to me there is no better place to do that than at Manchester Metropolitan University.
